With Ellen’s support, Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg gave 25 years of his life to the people of New York, fighting for change, for the health and betterment of the residents of New York State, and especially, as a voice for those who have no voice.
Harvey has passed so many bills that have helped so many people in so many areas of life.
Harvey’s fight against skin cancer, known to hundreds of thousands of Long Islanders because of the long-running Rockaway Turnpike billboard featuring Harvey’s Speedo-clad clad image, led to legislation requiring expiration dates on sun block.
Harvey fought to bring about Jonathan’s Law, which protects developmentally disabled children from abuse; he has fought to put teeth into laws protecting our disabled citizens, vehemently insisting that they be recognized as people first.
He has fought to simplify the application process for people who are in need of services through the NYS Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).
Harvey has fought for young people, sponsoring a bill that would require the Commissioner of Education to make recommendations on the adoption of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as part of the curriculum in high schools.
